Drew Willy Invited To The NFL Combine

Following his game-winning touchdown pass in the Texas vs. The Nation game in El Paso, Texas on Saturday, Willy has been invited to the NFL Combine, held in Indianapolis, Ind. from Feb. 18-24. It will be the third straight year that a former Bulls player will participate in the event.

And let me say, “Awesome! Go get em Drew!!

I personally would love to see Drew get a shot at the NFL. Coming from rags to riches at the University of Buffalo, it would be a destiny quite unexpected for the quiet young man from New Jersey. During Drew’s first few years as a Buffalo Bull, the team was hardly capable of winning a game. And after languishing at the bottom for a couple of years, Drew, and the entire Buffalo Bulls organization, got their biggest break of all time – coach Turner Gill was comin to town! Add to the great coach a couple of highly-talented offensive players like Naaman Roosevelt and James Starks and you have the makings of a damn good offense – and a MAC championship soon down the line!

By attending the Combine, Willy aims to be the first quarterback in Buffalo school history to ever be drafted into the NFL. Head coach Turner Gill feels that it’s a great chance for Willy, who owns every passing record at Buffalo, to show why he deserves to play in the NFL.

“It’s a tremendous honor for [Willy] to have an opportunity to showcase his skills at the NFL Combine,” Gill said. “It speaks volumes about the program that we are building here at Buffalo that we have had representation there for three straight years. I know Drew will have himself ready to make the most of this opportunity.”

There’s no question he’s ready. He’s started at quarterback for Buffalo from 3 games into his freshmen year and never looked back. He ran the show. He got to witness first-hand the birth of a respectable football program with the coming of Coach Gill and ending with a MAC championship and an invite to Buffalo’s first ever bowl game to close out Willy’s college career.

From all of the fans here in Buffalo, I’d like to say best of luck to Drew Willy on his attempt at getting into the NFL. We’ll all be following along and hopefully we’ll be watchin the Bulls play on Saturdays, and Drew playing on Sundays.

My prediction? Drew gets drafted in the 5th or 6th round. My fingers are crossed!
